    AveXis, Inc., a Novartis Company, is a clinical-stage gene therapy company, dedicated to developing and commercializing novel treatments for patients suffering from rare and life-threatening neurological genetic diseases. Our initial product candidate, AVXS-101, is our proprietary gene therapy product candidate currently in development for the treatment of spinal muscular atrophy, or SMA, Type 1, the leading genetic cause of infant mortality, and for the treatment of SMA Type 2. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, or FDA, has granted AVXS-101 Orphan Drug Designation for the treatment of all types of SMA and Breakthrough Therapy Designation, as well as Fast Track Designation for the treatment of SMA Type 1. In addition to developing AVXS-101 to treat SMA Type 1 and Type 2, we also plan to develop other novel treatments for rare neurological diseases, including Rett syndrome (RTT) and a genetic form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) caused by mutations in the superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) gene.

     

    The Senior Director, Organizational Development will lead the development and implementation of performance and talent management programs, tools, resources and communications in alignment with key business strategies. They will consult with HR and business leaders to form training strategies and determine methodologies for ensuring employee engagement. The Senior Director will develop competency models and training programs in support of organizational development.

    Responsibilities

    • Collaborates with and develops relationships among Human Resources (HR) and other organization leaders to understand and align programs with customer needs and, Organizational Development (OD) strategic initiatives and overall AveXis business strategy.
    • Deliver and direct the implementation of OD programs, training and communications.
    • Partner with HR leadership to develop and implement a performance and talent management strategy.
    • Develop strategies and programs to continuously improve culture, build leadership capability, employee engagement, and diversity and inclusion.
    • Foster change to strengthen the employee value proposition as AveXis continues to grow.
    • Leads the design, development, implementation and maintenance of career development offerings including new employee orientation, performance management, skill building, and leadership development to increase retention and the effectiveness of all employees.
    • Assesses all training program content, applicability, delivery and costs. Researches and recommends content providers for purchased programs. Evaluates cost, applicability and quality implications for internally developed offerings. Recommends appropriate and best-value sourcing for build-versus-buy decisions.
    • Assess, Design, Develop and Facilitate key organizational initiatives including but not limited performance management, talent review process, development planning and succession planning for mission critical roles.
    • Manage and develop a team of facilitators, ensuring proper techniques are utilized to ensure highly engaged training.
    • Report training, development, and succession planning outcomes to leadership to show progress/ROI.
    • Support organization-wide, large-scale change initiatives and interventions to develop a standard methodology or approach to leading change.
    • Serve as internal coach and consultant to leadership as requested.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Development or related field required, Master’s degree preferred.
    • Minimum eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in organizational development, training, design, and delivery of non-clinical programs.
    • Minimum three years of experience as an internal consultant in the analysis and implementation of both corporate wide and departmental specific programs.
    • Experience and knowledge of change management principles and methodologies, phases of group development and other team related dynamics and adult learning principles.
    • Interpersonal communication skills and experience necessary to work effectively with all levels of employee and management.
    • Demonstrated ability to leverage partner HR functions to deploy resources and programs that positively impact the business.
    • Demonstrated success working in a complex operating environment, preferably biopharmaceuticals, biotechnology, or pharmaceuticals preferred.
    • Demonstrated understanding of organizational development activity including high performing teams preferred.
    • Ability to build strong relationships with peers and cross functionally with business partners.
    • Experience leading a team, and is comfortable leading across a matrix environment.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with senior leaders and collaborate with staff at all organizational levels is required.
    • Ability to model and demonstrate work behaviors that are consistent with each of the company’s core values: Tenacity, Teamwork, and Integrity.

     

    The level of this position will be based on the final candidate’s qualifications.
