    AveXis, Inc., a Novartis Company, is a clinical-stage gene therapy company, dedicated to developing and commercializing novel treatments for patients suffering from rare and life-threatening neurological genetic diseases. Our initial product candidate, AVXS-101, is our proprietary gene therapy product candidate currently in development for the treatment of spinal muscular atrophy, or SMA, Type 1, the leading genetic cause of infant mortality, and for the treatment of SMA Type 2. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, or FDA, has granted AVXS-101 Orphan Drug Designation for the treatment of all types of SMA and Breakthrough Therapy Designation, as well as Fast Track Designation for the treatment of SMA Type 1. In addition to developing AVXS-101 to treat SMA Type 1 and Type 2, we also plan to develop other novel treatments for rare neurological diseases, including Rett syndrome (RTT) and a genetic form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) caused by mutations in the superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) gene.


    AveXis is seeking a Metrology/Calibration Technician to conduct diagnostics, calibrations, repairs, and modifications of industrial process control instrumentation. This role will assist with engineering and evaluation of new instrumentation and process control systems and prepare and organize technical documentation and operational procedures.


    • Install, calibrate, troubleshoot, repair, modify electronic, electromechanical, and pneumatic control devices for utility systems which support laboratory equipment, production equipment, central utilities, and building management systems.
    • Program/configure instrumentation as needed for new installations and/or replacements.
    • Assist with control systems start-up and validation.
    • Write calibration and preventive maintenance Standard Operating Procedures.
    • Test control systems and assist in validation of new and existing manufacturing facilities.
    • Collect and organize technical data from equipment manufacturers, equipment users, and engineering personnel.
    • Assist as technical subject matter expert with identification, purchase, and organization of spare parts.
    • Interpret P&IDs, equipment/system layouts, wiring diagrams, and specifications in 
      planning and performing maintenance and repairs. 
    • Support 24x7 site-based operations after startup.


    • AA/AS Degree in a related science or engineering major plus substantial relevant on-the-job training.
    • Completion of an Instrumentation or Industrial Electronics (2-year) curriculum at a technical school, or 5 years in manufacturing process instrumentation and control and/or analytical instrumentation or a closely related job and minimum 2 years in a cGMP environment.
    • Thorough knowledge of the fundamental operating principles of industrial process instrumentation and systems.
    • Must be proficient in ISA standards and practices for instrumentation.
    • Thorough knowledge of relay ladder logic and programmable controllers.
    • Experience working in a team environment, with excellent communication and organizational skills. 
    • Proficient computer skill utilizing MS Office suite applications, Building Management 
      Systems, and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS). 
    • Ability to climb ladders and lift up to 50 lbs.

    The level of this position will be based on the final candidate’s qualifications.
