    AveXis, Inc., a Novartis Company, is a clinical-stage gene therapy company, dedicated to developing and commercializing novel treatments for patients suffering from rare and life-threatening neurological genetic diseases. Our initial product candidate, AVXS-101, is our proprietary gene therapy product candidate currently in development for the treatment of spinal muscular atrophy, or SMA, Type 1, the leading genetic cause of infant mortality, and for the treatment of SMA Type 2. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, or FDA, has granted AVXS-101 Orphan Drug Designation for the treatment of all types of SMA and Breakthrough Therapy Designation, as well as Fast Track Designation for the treatment of SMA Type 1. In addition to developing AVXS-101 to treat SMA Type 1 and Type 2, we also plan to develop other novel treatments for rare neurological diseases, including Rett syndrome (RTT) and a genetic form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) caused by mutations in the superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) gene.

     

    The individual will report to the Vice President, Marketing and is responsible for the development, execution, and evaluation of strategic and tactical initiatives supporting optimal coverage, provider reimbursement, distribution, and patient access resources for AVXS-101.  The Director works closely with US Managed Markets team to meet timely goals.

    We seek a high-performing individual who has an understanding of the payer space with experience working with payer customers, brand marketing, pricing analysis, contracting and payer customer analytics.

     

    The successful candidate will create an environment in which the team is highly motivated and engaged to work together and cross functionally to deliver exceptional results and ensure long-term success. 

    Responsibilities

    • Collaborates with Managed Markets leadership in conjunction with support of brand marketing team to meet AVXS-101 strategic imperatives around optimal market access objectives.
    • Provides input into brand planning process that bridges coverage /access goals with emerging payer needs (unmet medical need, suitable comparators and competitive space).
    • Provides a total organization view and ensures proper organizational alignment around key factors affecting coverage, provider reimbursement and patient access.
    • Tracks and ensures ownership and coordination around payer policies and trends that impact AveXis therapeutic areas.
    • Understands and articulates key stakeholder economics that are impacted by AveXis product treatment decisions to respective brand teams.
    • Identifies and conducts payer analytics to highlight potential brand performance issues and clarify opportunities to improve performance and access.
    • Ensures payer account teams have the tools and resources needed to address potential gap analysis between payer expectations and what the AveXis product can deliver.
    • Payer Marketing team partners with each brand team on all brand initiatives impacted by payers, provider and patient access issues.
    • Develops insights, strategies, and tactics for reimbursement, distribution, and access to include, but not limited to: coverage dashboards, access website support, payer team tools, provider access tools, sales team messaging and access-related sales tools.
    • Develops best-in-class operational support to support DNA and FRM effectiveness.
    • Develops payer / hospital / pharmacy promotional materials.
    • Provides input in the development of a standardized contracting evaluation tool, and supporting ROI analysis for contracting strategies.
    • Develops and drives payer issue triage process that fosters collaboration and resolution between Managed Markets, Coordinating Centers and Sales& Marketing.
    • Demonstrates broad cross functional leadership.
    • Shares best practices across AveXis managed markets & marketing teams to ensure organizational learnings are applied to help drive appropriate reimbursement and coverage for product portfolio.
    • Builds a high performing Payer marketing team that demonstrates strong competencies and delivers results.
    • Ensures compliance with all applicable laws, regulations and regulatory guidelines governing commercial and scientific interactions with healthcare professionals, payers, advocacy and other business partners.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree required.
    • 7+ years of pharmaceutical marketing experience is preferred.
    • Experience in the rare disease therapeutic area is preferred.
    • Ability to solve problems that include many decision makers and carry several options for solutions, as well as persuasive written and verbal communication skills.
    • Comprehensive understanding of legal and regulatory issues impacting pharmaceutical product marketing as well as the dynamics driving the US health care environment.
    • Able to integrate business knowledge, financial knowledge and analyses of available information to make sound business decisions. Can apply financial analysis to build business cases that drive quality decision making and management processes.
    • Demonstrated understanding of program/project management processes and tools.
    • Must be able to travel (25%) as dictated by business need.

    The level of this position will be based on the final candidate’s qualifications.
