    AveXis, Inc. is a clinical-stage gene therapy company, dedicated to developing and commercializing novel treatments for patients suffering from rare and life-threatening neurological genetic diseases. Our initial product candidate, AVXS-101, is our proprietary gene therapy product currently in development for the treatment of spinal muscular atrophy, or SMA, the leading genetic cause of infant mortality. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, or FDA, has granted AVXS-101 Orphan Drug Designation for the treatment of all types of SMA and Breakthrough Therapy Designation, as well as Fast Track Designation for the treatment of SMA Type 1. In addition to developing AVXS-101 to treat SMA Type 1 and Type 2, we also plan to develop other novel treatments for rare neurological diseases, including Rett syndrome (RTT) and a genetic form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) caused by mutations in the superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) gene.

    As the primary liaison between the company’s patient enrollment hub and both patients and designated SMA treatment centers, the Field Reimbursement Manager (FRM) will be responsible for ensuring the broadest possible patient access in a reasonable amount of time.  The FRM must be a true partner to all internal and external stakeholders such as the Directors of National Accounts (payors), Sales Key Accounts Managers, patient-facing Family Experience Managers, as well as Care Coordinators at the Hub and physicians, nurses, and office staff at SMA treatment centers.

    The FRM will diligently follow each prescription through the enrollment, reimbursement, and distribution pathway, ensuring the best possible customer service, communicating plan-specific reimbursement criteria to prescribers and helping them navigate insurance obstacles, providing logistical support as necessary.

    In turn, the FRM will be the key point of contact for prescribed patients, to answer questions about access to therapy, set expectations regarding timelines, and educate on available resources, keeping the patient’s family informed at each step of the process to therapy.

    Excellent communication skills are required, as well as the ability to work with diverse personalities, tailoring a customer service approach to the particulars of each situation.

    Responsibilities

    • Develop and maintain excellent relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
    • Diligently contact each prescribed patient to set expectations, answer questions, and educate about available resources, keeping in close contact with each patient and family along each step of the reimbursement pathway
    • Provide live one-on-one support to prescribers and address questions about coverage requirements
    • Discuss reimbursement resources with staff at SMA treatment centers, including billing codes, PA guides, and co-pay support programs
    • Educate physician office staff on the use of the patient access programs and call center support services, including web-based provider support programs
    • Support buy and bill activity as requested by certain institutions and ensure timely delivery of product in the buy and bill setting
    • Efficiently manage a caseload of up to 30+ patient referrals per month across a large territory (8-10 states), ensuring a detailed knowledge of the current reimbursement status and any outstanding obstacles
    • Coordinate with multiple internal stakeholders, such as Sales, Advocacy, Medical Directors, and National Account Directors to determine and effect the best and most timely resolution to obstacles to therapy
    • 50-75% travel required

    Qualifications

    • Bachelors’ degree, with a preference for advanced degree or professional credentials (Master’s Degree, Registered Nurse, Social Worker, etc.)
    • Minimum of 5 years reimbursement experience in the pharmaceutical industry, including launch experience in the rare disease space
    • Strong knowledge and understanding of Compliance with HIPAA regulations and OIG guidance in the rare disease space
    • Deep experience working with reimbursement Hubs
    • Experience with specialty products acquired through Specialty Pharmacy networks
    • Experience with injectable products and “buy and bill” reimbursement pathways
    • Strong knowledge of the private and public payer landscape
    • A record of working effectively in a highly collaborative environment
    • Excellent organization skills
    • Self-motivated individual with the desire to excel and ability to manage his or her own caseload efficiently
