AveXis, Inc. is a clinical-stage gene therapy company, dedicated to developing and commercializing novel treatments for patients suffering from rare and life-threatening neurological genetic diseases. Our initial product candidate, AVXS-101, is our proprietary gene therapy product candidate currently in development for the treatment of spinal muscular atrophy, or SMA, Type 1, the leading genetic cause of infant mortality, and for the treatment of SMA Type 2. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, or FDA, has granted AVXS-101 Orphan Drug Designation for the treatment of all types of SMA and Breakthrough Therapy Designation, as well as Fast Track Designation for the treatment of SMA Type 1. In addition to developing AVXS-101 to treat SMA Type 1 and Type 2, we also plan to develop other novel treatments for rare neurological diseases, including Rett syndrome (RTT) and a genetic form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) caused by mutations in the superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) gene.


The Director / Sr. Director – Global Strategic Sourcing is responsible for developing and implementing the overall material sourcing strategy for AveXis. The individual is chartered with developing strategies that align with specific business needs, building a strong functional organization, establishing best practices, negotiating global contracts with preferred suppliers, identifying and driving continuous improvement initiatives. The Director – Global Strategic Sourcing will be a key leader within Global Supply Chain, assisting with vision setting and development of new capability within the department.


  • Sets sourcing strategy based upon key business drivers: assurance of supply, risk management, supplier purformance, joint innovation, etc.
  • Develops and drives 5 year global strategies focused on identifying and contracting with suppliers that meet key business needs and share AveXis core values.
  • Primary responsibility for identification, qualification and performance management of global strategic supplier base.
  • Align team and category management processes to meet business needs and sourcing goals.
  • Act as the key interface with AveXis partners ensuring alignment of strategies, and commitments.
  • Interfaces with senior leaders to obtain sponsorship and resources to implement sourcing strategies that support their key objectives
  • Manages a team of 2-3 direct reports



  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or technical field.
  • Minimum of 5 to 8 years of experience in strategy or sourcing roles in biotech or pharma industry.
  • Business acumen – knows how to assess market/business requirements dynamics and negotiate agreements that yield meaningful business value.
  • Experience working in highly regulated industries.
  • Experience in a continuous improvement environment with a track record of achieving results.
  • Demonstrated collaborative style in performing sourcing activities.
  • Influences without authority to motivate and manage a cross-functional team in multiple geographies.


  • Master of Business Administration (MBA)
  • CPSM or equivalent
  • Hands-on manufacturing and/or supply chain experience
