AveXis, Inc. is a clinical-stage gene therapy company, dedicated to developing and commercializing novel treatments for patients suffering from rare and life-threatening neurological genetic diseases. Our initial product candidate, AVXS-101, is our proprietary gene therapy product candidate currently in development for the treatment of spinal muscular atrophy, or SMA, Type 1, the leading genetic cause of infant mortality, and for the treatment of SMA Type 2. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, or FDA, has granted AVXS-101 Orphan Drug Designation for the treatment of all types of SMA and Breakthrough Therapy Designation, as well as Fast Track Designation for the treatment of SMA Type 1. In addition to developing AVXS-101 to treat SMA Type 1 and Type 2, we also plan to develop other novel treatments for rare neurological diseases, including Rett syndrome (RTT) and a genetic form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) caused by mutations in the superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) gene.

The Associate Director, Sales Operations / Business Analytics will be responsible for developing and implementing Sales Operations strategies/tactics that optimize performance of the Marketing, Sales, & Market Access functions to ensure the successful launch and growth of AVXS-101.


This individual will provide strategic direction & decision support for Senior Leadership on business systems requirements, process improvements, market trends & other aspects affecting commercial operational performance.  This position will also play a key role with consultants, data supply vendors, etc.


  • Develop and implement a dynamic commercial data management system to archive, data mine, and report on all commercial data
  • Develop and implement a business intelligence system to support the commercial organization with analytics, visuals and reporting
  • Identify and manage secondary data sources (e.g., Symphony, SteepRock KOL Profiling, PolicyReporter, HUB data, etc.) used to support the commercial sales teams
  • Develop and manage Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system integrating all critical data sources which profile our various customers.
  • Develop and manage appropriate tools for field teams which meet their needs for operational efficiency and customer insights
  • Provide in-depth analytics that are used in determining sales force effectiveness, sales force performance, territory alignment, call plan development, national and sub-national product performance and brand team analytical needs.
  • Maintain industry awareness regarding market trends, competition, and product acceptance affecting the functional area


  • B.S. or similar degree is required.
  • 7+ years of experience in pharmaceutical Master Data Management, Sales Operations and/or Sales Analytics.
  • Experience leading a successful master data management/data warehouse project
  • Demonstrated proficiency in writing SQL queries to answer business questions
  • Experience working with Business Intelligence (BI) tools; including the process of connecting BI tools with back-end data tables in a data warehouse
  • Experience as a CRM systems administrator and/or implementing a CRM system
  • Knowledge of sales force portfolios, data sources, territory alignments, and resource allocation is effectiveness is required.
  • Demonstrated business acumen, proven ability in translating ideas into concepts, gaining budget & delivering results against budget on time.
  • Ability to consult, draw out issues, conduct root cause analysis & build customer focused recommendations.
  • Ability to prioritize critical tasks & maintain high degree of accuracy amid competing deadlines.
  • Proven analytical & problem-solving skills.
  • Strong PC & software skills including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proven process improvement skills.

This position is based in the corporate headquarters in Bannockburn, Illinois. Domestic travel is estimated to be 5-10%.


The level of this position will be based on the final candidate’s qualifications.
