AveXis, Inc. is a clinical-stage gene therapy company, dedicated to developing and commercializing novel treatments for patients suffering from rare and life-threatening neurological genetic diseases. Our initial product candidate, AVXS-101, is our proprietary gene therapy product candidate currently in development for the treatment of spinal muscular atrophy, or SMA, Type 1, the leading genetic cause of infant mortality, and for the treatment of SMA Type 2. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, or FDA, has granted AVXS-101 Orphan Drug Designation for the treatment of all types of SMA and Breakthrough Therapy Designation, as well as Fast Track Designation for the treatment of SMA Type 1. In addition to developing AVXS-101 to treat SMA Type 1 and Type 2, we also plan to develop other novel treatments for rare neurological diseases, including Rett syndrome (RTT) and a genetic form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) caused by mutations in the superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) gene.


AveXis is seeking a Senior Manager, Business Analytics who will be responsible for supporting marketing, market access, and sales strategies and tactics through data, market research, and analytics, to ensure the successful launch and growth of AVXS-101 as well as future products and business opportunities.

This individual will provide strategic direction & decision support for Senior Leadership on market trends, product performance, field organization design & other aspects affecting commercial performance.  This position will also play a key role with consultants and data supply vendors.


  • Provide strategic direction, planning and insights to the organization to ensure goal achievement, ROI, and appropriate investment in people, systems, & process needs
  • Proactively identify business questions (e.g., market trends, product performance, marketing campaign development and performance, market access analytics, sales force organization design, call planning) and determine the optimal approach to answer them through data, analytics, market research, etc.
  • Design and execute in-depth data analytics projects (data vendor identification, analysis design/ business rules, summary, presentation of results)
  • Design and execute market research projects (data vendor identification, research design, summary and presentation of results)
  • Monitor market and competitive landscape and advise on adjustment in strategies and tactics when needed
  • Maintain industry awareness regarding market trends, competition, and product acceptance affecting the functional area
  • Instill a culture of ethics and integrity and ensures compliance with all applicable policies and regulations


  • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, or other analytics-related degree is required.
  • The successful candidate will possess: 5+ years of experience in pharmaceutical commercial data, analytics, and market research.  
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical data sources and their application to support business decisions. Experience utilizing limited/ sub-optimal data to gain insights in specialty pharmaceutical products or orphan/ rare diseases
  • Market research expertise
  • Ability to combine primary data sources and secondary market research insights to support sales and marketing strategies and forecasting
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical field force designs, territory alignments, and resource allocation effectiveness
  • Demonstrated business acumen, proven ability in translating ideas into concepts, gaining budget & delivering results on budget and on time
  • Proven analytical & problem-solving skills
  • Strong PC & software skills including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Exceptional organizational, time, and task management skills. Ability to prioritize critical tasks and maintain high degree of accuracy amid competing deadlines
  • Team player with the ability to work collaboratively in a global, matrix organization
  • Entrepreneurial, decisive, and have the tenacity to “make things happen”
  • Strong interpersonal skills and persuasiveness
  • Effective communication and presentation skills
  • This position is based in the corporate headquarters in Bannockburn, Illinois. Domestic travel is estimated to be 5-10%.

The level of this position will be based on the final candidate’s qualifications.
