AveXis, Inc. is a clinical-stage gene therapy company, dedicated to developing and commercializing novel treatments for patients suffering from rare and life-threatening neurological genetic diseases. Our initial product candidate, AVXS-101, is our proprietary gene therapy product candidate currently in development for the treatment of spinal muscular atrophy, or SMA, Type 1, the leading genetic cause of infant mortality, and for the treatment of SMA Type 2. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, or FDA, has granted AVXS-101 Orphan Drug Designation for the treatment of all types of SMA and Breakthrough Therapy Designation, as well as Fast Track Designation for the treatment of SMA Type 1. In addition to developing AVXS-101 to treat SMA Type 1 and Type 2, we also plan to develop other novel treatments for rare neurological diseases, including Rett syndrome (RTT) and a genetic form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) caused by mutations in the superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) gene.


The Director, Commercial Financial Planning and Analysis will support multiple functional areas – in particular, Commercial and Medical Affairs – from a financial planning and analysis perspective.


  • Supports the commercial team from a launch-readiness perspective
  • Provides regular updates on how team is tracking against expense and resource requirements vs. approved budget and Latest Best Estimate (LBE) plans
  • Assists Healthcare Provider payment tracking
  • Leads the expense planning, annual budgeting and real-time LBE forecasting process for Commercial team
  • Partners with Market Research and Finance teams to update P&L projections
  • Provides financial analyses for any business development opportunities and assessments
  • Assists Finance team with other ad-hoc tasks as needed, including stock option equity transactions, expense report approval and other finance-related tasks
  • Partners with investment bankers as needed to provide updated income statement, cash flow statement, and balance sheet projections to ensure latest Cost of Goods Sold, royalty expenses are updated consistent with license agreements


  • BS/BA Degree. MBA and/or CPA desirable.
  • 10+ years of biotech/pharmaceutical industry experience preferably supporting and partnering with Commercial department from a finance perspective.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent planning and organization skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills commensurate with the need to work closely with all departments and at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality and integrity, represent the company’s high ethics, moral behavior, and professionalism.

The level of this position will be based on the final candidate’s qualifications.
